Two people were killed after the car they were riding crashed into a Metro Rail Transit (MRT) post along EDSA-North Ave. in Quezon City Thursday morning.
A Honda Civic driven by Jeffrey San Juan crashed into the EDSA Trinoma-MRT post and fell on the center island. The car was seen speeding on its way to EDSA southbound at around 5:45 a.m.
“Wala naman po siyang kasabayan. Bigla nalang rumampa dito sa gutter, tapos bumangga… Nagdire-diretso na sa pagbangga sa poste,” said witness Jerry Caceres.
Rescue operations took more than an hour to free San Juan and his companion who remained unidentified as of posting time.
San Juan was declared dead on the spot after being taken out of the car. He was identified after rescuers found his driver’s license.
His friend was taken to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center along North Ave. after he was found to have a pulse. He was declared dead on arrival at 6:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the wrecked car, which caused traffic along EDSA on Thursday morning, was removed from the scene at around 7 a.m.
