According to news reports the blaze broke out around 12:20 am Wednesday and reached fire alarm Task Force Bravo status, which is a call out for all fire stations to send their available fire trucks to the site.

The popular amusement park was closed when the blaze erupted at 12:22 a.m. It was believed to have started in the stockroom of stuffed toys and an assortment of prizes, Pasay City fire marshal Paul Pili said.

Flames quickly spread to other parts of the building and huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the sky.

Two hours later, the incident was raised to Task Force Bravo, which meant some 19 fire trucks were deployed to the area, Pili added.

The blaze was brought under control at 4:30 a.m.

Star City is a 35,000 square meter theme park inside the reclaimed area of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex in Pasay City. Just across Star City is the famed CCP Main Theater.

Aside from the amusement park, also damaged by the fire were the facilities of the Manila Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

The MBC, in a statement, said company officials are closely coordinating with authorities to determine the cause of the fire.

"Star City, which was hardest hit by the fire, will be closed through the Christmas season," it added.

Authorities are looking into suspected arson as they said the blaze quickly spread throughout the amusement park.

According to Pasay City Fire Marshal Paul Pili, different areas of Star City seemed to have caught on fire at the same time.
