When you take into consideration pickup trucks, don’t picture a dirty jalopy sitting at a construction site. Today trucks are closer in feel–and price–to luxurious sedans.
Just think about the Icon FJ45, a military-style long-bed truck hand developed by Jonathan Ward and company in Los Angeles. Ward, a former Land Cruiser restorer and special-projects consultant for Toyota, left to commence his personal company right after Toyota made the FJ Cruiser–a car he felt wasn’t accurate towards the model. Now Ward focuses on constructing trucks with what he calls “classic styling, modern performance and timeless utility.” The Icon truck’s starting price? $120,000.
The FJ45 has a V8 engine that gets up to 450 horsepower. If you don’t want to use all that v8 power, you can use the optional biodiesel-compatible turbo-diesel 4-cylinder engine. According to Forbes, the truck also has a “sport suspension package that comes with nitrogen-charged remote canister shocks, limiter straps and hydraulic bump stops.”
