The newest wrangling over the web resurfaced in a big way today as the government licensing access tot he Internet took center stage again. The theory behind this concept is that the government would have the ability to cut off certain computers at their discretion for reason such as malware/spyware spreading.
The problem with this is that the Internet is one of the only entities not government controlled. The fear is that the Internet would no longer be free and could be taxed at some point if there was a realistic way to have everyone go through the government to get online.
A recent statement by a Microsoft security expert has once again raised the debate over the regulation of the Internet in order to protect the majority of users from those who spread malicious code.
