Dexter Season Five, aka the catharsis season, continues to slowly find its footing with "Beauty and the Beast," which found our hero struggling to gain the trust of a battered woman. Quinn, meanwhile, made bold steps to link Dexter to Kyle Butler or, as viewers see it, increased the odds that he will someday land on Dexter's kill table. And on the filler side of things, Deb makes an advance in the Santa Muerte case while Angel finds himself in the clutches of this season's obligatory internal affairs investigation.
With Boyd finally dispatched, we finally get an introduction this season's centerpiece, Julia Stiles' character Lumen. Bruised and battered doesn't wholly describe her; she has the mental scars to match. After a healthy dose of M99 and some quick detective work, Dexter pins her ID down as Lumen Ann Pierce, seemingly a runaway who has a family back home in Minnesota.
