A police officer and a shooting suspect are both dead after a standoff in Alabama.

The slain officer was identified as Justin Billa, Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste said. Battiste identifed the shooter as Robert Hollie.

Billa had been responding to the home of a suspect in another homicide earlier in the evening, authorities said. The SWAT Team is working on the scene at a home near where the officer was shot in the Toulminville community.

It appears someone connected to the shooting barricaded themselves inside a home near the scene.
The standoff ended around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, with Hollie dead. Battiste says police don’t know if Hollie died from self-inflicted injuries or the shots previously fired by police.
